Madge Networks Launches New Token Ring Products as Part of Future Roadmap

New low cost adapter and LAN Support Software demonstrate market leader's commitment to support current and ongoing requirements of Token Ring users and OEM PC manufacturers

WEXHAM SPRINGS, U.K.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 17, 2002-- Madge Networks N.V. (NASDAQ NM:MADGF)has announced the latest products in its Token Ring roadmap.

This roadmap is increasing choice and flexibility for customers by enabling the integration of new technology with Token Ring, whilst preserving the business benefits of existing network investments. As the market leader in high performance and flexible Token Ring connectivity, Madge Networks will continue to innovate with new products.

The new RapidFire(TM) 3140 Low Profile 16/4 Token Ring PCI adapter is a low profile version of Madge's successful RapidFire 3140 PCI adapter. Using the latest generation of Madge silicon, it features both UTP and STP connections and flexible Remote Boot options at a low cost, and complements the Madge Smart MK4 100/16/4 Low Profile adapter.

The new adapter will provide customers with the industry's most cost effective and flexible Token Ring connection for low profile PCs and servers. The adapter is supported by Madge LAN Support Software (LSS 7.1 and upwards) to ensure compatibility with existing network installations.

Madge's LAN Support Software (LSS) 8.0 is the latest release of Madge's unique suite of adapter drivers and utilities. LSS 8.0 features adapter optimization with enhanced driver selection and installation. LSS will provide customers with a universal driver suite and a unique software toolkit that reduces the ownership costs of PCs, servers and workstations equipped with Madge LAN adapters.

LSS enables the easy deployment and simple upgrade of Madge adapters and their driver software. The software suite also simplifies the complexity of Operating System upgrades, and provides the tools to manage and distribute updated drivers.

"Our Token Ring roadmap delivers cost effective and high performance Token Ring products with advanced multi-network integration options," commented Simon Drennan, Director of Marketing at Madge Networks. "We are seeing growing demand for our Low Profile adapters, which now represent approximately 20 per cent of our PCI shipments. This reflects the increasing volume of low profile PCs supplied from our OEM partners. LSS simplifies driver selection, installation and management, and this latest release (LSS 8.0) further automates the selection and upgrading of drivers."

This launch follows the announcement in 2001 of the standard profile RapidFire 3140V2 PCI adapter, based on the latest Madge-owned silicon to provide advanced 16/4 PCI Token Ring connectivity and improved reliability and performance.

Available in single or 100 packs for 4/16Mbps Token Ring or full-duplex Token Ring networks, the Madge RapidFire 3140 Low Profile PCI adapter will be available from February 2002. LSS 8.0 will be available from the end of the first quarter 2002.
