Madge Networks announces secure wireless LAN products for enterprise customers

First products in Madge Smart Wireless family provide standards-compliant, secure 802.11b LAN integration with Token Ring and Ethernet networks

Amsterdam, The Netherlands (May 22, 2002) - Madge Networks N.V. (NASDAQ NM: MADGF) has announced its first wireless LAN products aimed at enterprise customers. These products deliver the Madge Networks wireless strategy, also announced today, that enables enterprise customers to quickly and easily implement secure, scalable and managed wireless LANs. The product family applies the Madge Wireless Security Model and features 802.1x compliant security, authentication, firewalls, and integrated SNMP management.

The new products are called the Smart Wireless product family and the first four products are: -
1. Red-M™ Genos™ scalable wireless software and the Smart Wireless Access Server™ that provides security and wireless LAN management, integration with Token Ring or Ethernet, and integration with access points from multiple vendors
2. The Smart Wireless Access Point 802.11b™ that provides secure 802.11b (11Mbps) wireless connection to the Smart Wireless Access Server or to Ethernet networks
3. The Smart Wireless Advanced PCMCIA Adapter 802.11b™ (11Mbps), providing mobile client connectivity
4. The Smart Wireless PCI Adapter 802.11b™ (11Mbps), providing desktop client connectivity

The Madge Smart Wireless products implement industry standards and together, provide connectivity to Token Ring and Ethernet networks and to standards-compliant wireless products from multiple vendors.

Madge Networks has defined a Wireless Security Model to assist in the planning and implementation of secure wireless LANs, to guard against wireless intrusion or eavesdropping. The Madge Smart Wireless product family implements security industry standards including 802.1x, IPSec VPN, RADIUS, EAP-TLS, EAP-MD5 and WEP (64 and 128bit). The products also feature SNMP management and 802.11b compliance to enable interoperability in a multi-vendor wireless network.


Madge Networks intends to announce additional products and scalability options during the remainder of 2002.

The Smart Wireless Access Server retails at $3,400. The Smart Wireless Access Point 802.11b retails at $499. The Smart Wireless Advanced PCMCIA Adapter 802.11b and Smart Wireless PCI Adapter 802.11b retail at $149 and $199, respectively. Further details can be found at www.madge.com.
