meet
the growing
demand for secure wireless networks. Madge will build on its strong
position and experience in the mature Token Ring market to strengthen
its presence in the fast growing wireless local area market through
the development of innovative enterprise wireless LAN products. Madge

LAN Brand with worldwide distribution, has a reputation for quality
products plus an existing customer base as well as excellent leverage
with IBM and major PC OEMs.
Madge will concentrate on wireless LAN security and manageability
using a combination of OEM, intellectual property acquisition and
development. Product development will be focused in three areas:
- Next Generation Enterprise Access Points and Intrusion detection
devices
- Security, intrusion detection and management software
- Multifunction Hardware appliances
Madge is the market leader in Token Ring networking solutions supplying
major enterprises such as Bank of America, Lufthansa, Swiss Railways
and several governments. Madge already markets a range of wireless
LAN infrastructure, adapters and intrusion detection systems.
The next generation products will build on the existing product
range.
Additional functionality and new products will start to become
available later this year.
The Worldwide enterprise wireless LAN (WLAN) switch/controller
market grew 105% in Q2 2004. Enterprise WLAN equipment sales (47%
of market)
were up 14 percent (Synergy Research Group 2004).
The wireless LAN market in Europe is set to grow by 74% in 2004,
and at a rate of 47% through to 2008 (Dell’Oro Group 2004).
