MDGLOG95.EXE, an Overview
To view the status of your Windows 95/98/2000 or NT driver or to view the details of an error code generated by a miniport driver during loading, use MDGLOG95.EXE.
When the driver has successfully loaded, MDGLOG can be used to view the operational status of the driver. It will provide information such as the driver name and version and the token ring operating speed.

MDGLOG works with all versions of Windows 95/98/2000 and with Windows NT 3.51 and NT 4. It shows error codes generated by MDGMPORT.SYS, MDGNDIS4.SYS and MDGNDIS5.SYS. |

MDGLOG95 can only provide information about adapters when the Madge miniport driver distributed with LSS 6.0(0) or later is used. |
To install MDGLOG:
Using My Computer or Windows Explorer, find the program called setuplog. Double click on this icon. The installation process starts.
You will be asked if you really want to install the product and whether you would like to change the location where the product files will be installed. Select to install the MDGLOG files on your local hard disk. The installation proceeds
From your Start Menu, select Madge Utilities
and then Madge Miniport Status Tool.
After it has searched the system for information, MDGLOG displays a
Window containing information about the first Madge adapter listed in
the Windows registry. This window will contain an event code and an event
message if the adapter failed to start or summary information about the
adapter's state if it started.
To view information about the next adapter listed in the Windows registry, select Next Adapter.
In this mode MDGLOG95 always runs in the background and continuously monitors your token-ring adapters, and can optionally generate a visible and audible alert when certain events occur. When in System Tray mode a Madge icon will appear on the right-hand-side of your System Tray. Double-clicking on this icon will activate the MDGLOG95 window. To enable System Tray mode, run MDGLOG95 as above and then hit the "Configure" button. A dialogue box opens with the following controls:
"Display icon in system tray"
If this box is checked MDGLOG95 will run in System Tray mode.
"Alert on adapter events"
If this box is checked MDGLOG95 will generate an alert when any enabled token-ring events or mirror switch occurs.
"Flash system tray icon on alerts / Activate window on alerts"
These radio buttons allow you to choose what should happen when MDGLOG95 generates an alert. The first option is for the Madge icon on the right-hand-side of your System Tray to flash. The second option is for the MDGLOG95 window to be activated automatically.
"Generate a sound on alerts"
If this box is checked then MDGLOG95 will play the system exclamation sound when an alert occurs.
When a driver has successfully loaded, you can use MDGLOG95 to view the operational status of the driver.
It will provide information such as the driver name and version and the token-ring operating speed (4Mbps or 16Mbps).
If a driver has failed to initialise the adapter and has reported an error, MDGLOG95 can be used to view the error string associated with the error code.

On Windows NT 4 and Windows 95/98/2000:
Open the Control Panel and double click Add/Remove Programs icon. A list of products appears.
Select the product called Madge Miniport Status Tool and select the Add/Remove button. The system removes MDGLOG.
On Windows NT 3.51:
In the Program Manager, open the group called Madge Utilities.
Double click on the icon called Uninstall Madge Miniport Status Tool. The system removes MDGLOG.
