Key Benefits
Easy integration
The RapidFire 3140v2 is easily integrated into
any network. It is compatible with the latest PCI-based systems
and
supports automatic detection
and selection of the following parameters:
- 4 or 16 Mbps ring speed
- STP or UTP cable type
- Full-duplex (DTR) or shared Token Ring connection
Network drivers for all major operating systems can downloaded
at www.madge.com/software and is available on a CD. Unattended
installation is supported for Windows 95 and Windows NT simplifying
workstation rollouts.
Madge LSS LAN Support Software supports not only RapidFire 3140
and Smart PCI adapters, but also all other Madge Token Ring adapters
including CardBus, GoCard and PCMCIA. It is available at no charge
from our Web site. This single suite of drivers reduces the amount
of software to be maintained and
means that a single installation image or procedure can be used across all
desktops, workstations, laptops and servers.
Value and performance
RapidFire 3140v2 is the most cost-effective 16/4
Token Ring connection. It features a high performance PCI bus master
interface and has
been enhanced with important new features that make it an ideal
16/4 Token Ring adapter.
Advanced feature set
As well as ease-of-use, cost effective pricing
and high performance, RapidFire 3140v2 supports the latest industry
initiatives including
Wake-on-LAN, Remote Boot, ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power
Interface) and promiscuous mode (network interrogation) support.
Magic Packet Wake-on-LAN is a remote power management technology
that allows network administrators the capability to remotely manage
their PCs during the PCs normal downtime. The BootROM socket allows
remote boot functionality. This gives Network Administrators the
ability to make PC start up more secure and controllable. The Advanced
Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) is a new industry standard
for PCI devices. It allows an ACPI-aware PC to understand the power
consumption requirements of each PCI device. This means an ACPI
operating system such as Windows 98 or Windows 2000 can economically
control the power state of a PC. The PC can be automatically placed
in a low power state and quickly resume full operation at the command
of the user or of a remote management console using Microsoft OnNow.

adapter
Madge LSS driver support
RapidFire 3140v2 can be deployed alongside both Madge
Smart PCI adapters, GoCard, PCMCIA and CardBus laptop cards using
the same driver suite.
Auto-Ring Speed Detect, DTR support and WireSenseTM
Simple installation and configuration ensures no disruption to the existing
network.
Moves and changes can be implemented without having to reconfigure the adapter.
Unattended installation for Windows 95 and NT 4
Eases roll-out of Windows clients. Fast, simple, efficient and fault
free installation and configuration.
Wake-on-LAN and ACPI 1.0 PC power management
Advanced Configuration and Power Interface is a fundamental part of
future Microsoft and Intel platforms. It enables management applications
to cost-effectively control the power consumption of a PC. Wake-on-LAN
allows remote PC wake-up and management.
On-line user guide and diagnostics
Comprehensive support utility (Madge Assist) includes documentation,
diagnostics and configuration that can be used with all Madge Token Ring
adapters.
Remote boot capability
Allows central boot management for improved security and control for
networked PCs with eithier RPL or PXE2 technologies as customer options.
