Key Features
Single, high performance, drivers for PCI and PC Card adapters
Madge UniDriver technology allows a standard set-up to be deployed
across the corporate LAN for use in desktops, workstations, portables
and servers.
LSS 9.0 UniDrivers use a modular architecture that has allowed the drivers to
be developed and optimized for the latest PC operating systems. This architecture
enables new adapters to be easily added to an existing desktop/workstation image
with simplified ongoing support. Madge technology has been rigorously tested
on the latest desktop, portable and server PC systems.
For further assurance, Madge has developed industry partnerships that allow our
products to be tested and approved by leading PC and Operating Systems suppliers.
LSS 9.0 builds upon an installed base of over 5 million Token-Ring adapters.
All UniDrivers support full-duplex (Dedicated) Token-Ring that helps to maximize
server availability and performance. For ultimate server availability, drivers
support Adapter Mirroring for Windows NT and Novell NetWare servers, and also
support the latest Hot Plug PCI standard.
LSS 9.0 Utilities
Graphical utility
including adapter diagnostics and configuration,
an HTML documentation browser, a hardware scripting feature and a diskette
creation utility.
Driver revision manager
for upgrading to a new version
of Windows driver across an entire network.
Management agent
for Desktop Management Interface V2.0
to enable desktop management applications such as Intel LANDesk
to audit the Token-Ring desktop.
Adapter status utility
reporting either error
messages or details such as the adapter ring speed and network
address.
Windows application
that displays useful version
information for Madge software.
Quick diagnostics tool
used as a rapid
adapter commissioning tool or to test either individual adapters
or
the connection between two
adapters on a token ring network.
Card Services emulator
Allows PCMCIA and
CardBus adapters to be deployed in DOS environments without
the large
memory overhead of standard
Card Services software. Enhanced Driver features
Remote Boot support
The latest Madge Token-Ring PCI adapters include a BootROM socket
used to add security and control to a large network. Further information
about Madge BootROM
support can be found at:
RPL/PXE2 Boot ROM
for 51-05 and 53-05 (83-11)
RPL/PXE2 Boot ROM
for 3140V2 and 31-04 (87-21)
Unparalleled power management
The latest generation of Madge PCI Token-Ring adapters support
Wake-on-LAN power management and Microsoft OnNow which enable
network managers to control workstation
power centrally. A PC that supports remote wake-up can remain available to
a systems administrator during its normal downtime.
Network managers considering migration to next generation operating systems
can incorporate these comprehensive power management features by standardising
now
on Madge adapters running with LSS9 drivers.
High security options
The latest Madge adapters support promiscuous mode
operation. This enables the driver to be used with network analyzers
and server
applications to receive and
interpret all the packets on a token ring.
The latest Madge adapters have the ability to disable promiscuous mode using
either the “Assist” utility or by setting driver properties.
This improves security by preventing desktop users from being able to monitor
sensitive
network traffic from other users.
DOS memory savings
Madge LSS 9.0 includes support for the Novell Client 32 architecture.
This allows network drivers to be loaded into DOS extended
memory freeing conventional memory
for other applications.
In order to provide connectivity using 3270/5250 emulation, an IEEE 802.2
(LLC) protocol module is provided for the Client32 environment. In addition,
a NetBIOS
protocol module for Client 32 is also provided to provide network connectivity
for NetBIOS applications such as IBM DOS LAN Requester. This utility implements
the NetBIOS API making use of the Client 32 LLC protocol and the 32-bit
ODI drive
Supported Platorms
Recognizing the long-legacy of Token-Ring applications, LSS 9.0 supports all
Windows platforms and includes updated 16- bit NDIS2 UniDrivers for DOS and
OS/2. It also includes support
for other
operating systems such as Linux, HP-UX, Solaris and MacOS.
To check which adapters are supported please read the supported
products page.
